Alvin Donald Woods Sr. died on June 24 at Kempsville Health and Rehabilitation Center in Virginia Beach after a long illness.  He was born to David and Isabelle Woods in St. Louis, Mo. He was raised in a family that ultimately had a total of 13 brothers and sisters. Mr. Woods left Missouri and made his way in life and around the world as a result of his military service. He was a career Navy man, during which Mr. Woods served on the aircraft carriers U.S.S. Valley Forge, U.S.S. Enterprise, U.S.S. Forrestal, U.S.S. America and U.S.S. Kennedy. Portions of his service took place during the Korean and Vietnam wars. The Navy honored Mr. Woods for his service and awarded him Good Conduct, Navy Achievement, National Defense Service medals, and the Armed Forces Expedition Medal for Korea. He also received the Vietnam Campaign Meritorious Unit Condemn Ribbon. He retired at the rank of Chief Petty Officer and worked as a security guard for many years at Tidewater Community College, Virginia Beach campus. He was predeceased by his parents and two siblings. Mr. Woods is survived by his wife, Emma; 10 siblings; three children, Alvin Woods Jr. of Cleveland, David Woods of Logan, W.Va., and Kimberly Woods of Washington, D.C., and three grandchildren. Simplicity is not a superficial reduction of stuff, but what Pope Francis calls “an attitude of the heart,” one which “is capable of being fully present to someone without thinking of what comes next, which accepts each moment as a gift from God to be lived to the full.”

Danielle Im truly sorry for the loss of your loved one. May the God of tender mercies(Psalm 83:18)comfort you, 2 Corinthians 1:3,4
