Mae Ruth Mungo was born on December 21, 1925 in Tarboro, North Carolina to the late Bessie Hunt and Roosevelt Bullock. She was the oldest of five children. On November 4, 2017, in the wee hours of the morning, God whispered in her ear and called her home. She was 91 years old. Ruth moved with her family to Portsmouth, Virginia, where she received her education in the Portsmouth County School System. It was there where she met and married the love of her life, Grover Cleveland Mungo who preceded her in death. From this union one son was born, Grover Melvin Mungo. She was a member of Zion Baptist Church in Portsmouth for many years where she attended services regularly until her health prevented her from doing so. Ruth devoted her life to her immediate and extended families. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister and aunt. Her loving spirit and unselfish nature was felt by all who met her. She was a giving, warm and compassionate person who always welcomed family into her home. And so, it was no surprise when her grandson Juan decided to live with her when her health began to change to make sure she was protected and safe. She was an exceptional housekeeper and great cook. Her southern hospitality was enjoyed by all who came to know her. She was very independent and enjoyed traveling, and visiting family in many different states, and shopping. She will be remembered by family and friends for her warm and welcoming nature, her mild manner and tremendous capacity to listen and respond with an encouraging word. She leaves to cherish her loving memories, her son, Grover Melvin; grandchildren, Melita (Mallcolm), Adrian (Lena), and Juan (her bosom buddy); great grandchildren, Vanesa (James), Evan and Brittnee and two great-great grandchildren, Taj and Jade. She also leaves ones sister, Irma Simpson and one brother, Anthony Hunt. Preceded in death by one sister, Josephine Maxwell and two brothers, Julius Bullock and Lawrence Hunt. She also leaves one sister-in-law, Malinda Mungo along with numerous nieces and nephews.
