Charles Earl Jefferson bravely transitioned from his earthly body on Thursday, August 3, 2017 at 10:39a.m. Charles affectionately known as “Jeff” or “Jefferson” by some was born in Pine Bluff, Arkansas January 26, 1951. Charles was educated in Chicago public school. After graduating high school, he joined the United States Navy in August 1969. He worked proudly as a turbofan jest engine mechanic, aircraft technician, and a system organization maintenance technician. He was awarded many decorations, medals, badges, citations and campaign ribbons. All of which include: Fifth Meritorious Unit Commendation, National Defense Service Medal, Second Navy Expeditionary Medal, Second Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Battle “E: Ribbon, Navy Unit Commendation, and Second Good Conduct Award. He retired in February 1990. Charles is survived by two amazing children Kaila and Zachary Jefferson of Norfolk, Virginia, very good friend, Ethel Weaver of Chesapeake, Virginia, and brother/friend James Rayford of Temple Hill, Maryland and a host of family and friends. Charles father, Joe Jefferson and mother, Dorothy Mae Thompson, preceded him in death. What an incredible father he was. He was relentless in taking great care of his children (twins); loving and teaching them incredible value. He couldn’t wait to spend weekends and summers with his “babies.” Charles loved attending parties with friends. He took great pride in becoming the PTA president of his children’s elementary school, which he NEVER let Zach, Kaila or anyone else ever forget. He also enjoyed doing things within his community. He became the president of his neighborhood civic league and loved planning those special events. Anytime he stepped out, he was sure to be impeccably dressed with a 3 piece suit, full length coat with matching hat, “pimp” cane and shoes. (I know you are imaging an outfit now). There was never a hair out of place! Anyone who knew Charles would definitely say he was a “character.” He was funny, opinionated, charismatic, charming and a total life of the party. And boy did he love to talk. His sense of humor was infectious and his laugh and smile could light up any room. We believe that everyone who knew Charles would agree that he was a man of great strength, courage and dignity. He fought long and hard until the very end. He was a candid, witty, stylish, genuine and loving father, son, brother and friend. What a handsome, brave and courageous man he was.

Martin and Belinda Kaila and Zach I really didn't know or understand the importance of memories until I matured in life. The memories that you have of your father will sooth just some of the void that you both are experiencing now. But those memories will certainly sustain you - and even make you smile as time goes on. You both are amazing human beings. "This too shall pass." Keep the faith! Love, Martin & Belinda
