Carl Anthony George, better known as “6’9” , was born on May 18, 1952 in Maryville, TN to the late Henrietta Bowerman and the late Carl George. He peacefully entered eternal rest on March 16, 2018. Carl is preceded in death by his brother Von, daughter Stephanie, an aunt Louise, and an uncle Alfred. Carl was raised in Knoxville, TN where he attended Austin East High School and later moved to Detroit, MI graduating from South Eastern High School. In 1973, he entered the U.S. Navy and served for 3 years. Upon his discharge from the navy he began to work for NavFac, formerly known as PWC, as a Hazardous Waste Handler before becoming a Civil Service retiree. He was also a member of the American Legion, Post 190. Carl “6’9” George was a serious sports fanatic. He absolutely was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan where navy blue, silver, and white ran through his veins. He was also phenomenal on the basketball court. When teaming up with his cousin on the court they were unstoppable. Carl’s final days were spent surrounded by family and friends who truly loved him. He was such a jokester and had a very special way of leaving his mark on people. A gentle giant he was. Carl was a member of Calvary Revival Church in Norfolk, VA. Carl’s precious memories will forever linger in the hearts of his daughters Shahreda George (Marion Daniels) and Chantal Lovett of Baltimore, MD; grandchildren, Christopher Gourley of Knoxville, TN and Chloe Gourley of Chattanooga, TN; brothers, Wayman George (Pat) of Oakridge, TN, Michael Bowerman of Detroit, MI, Donnie Warren of Knoxville, TN, and Mike of California; sisters, Pam Johnson of Cincinnati, OH, Robin Williams of Knoxville, TN, Michiko McKinley (Larry) of Detroit, MI, Kim Ovando of Detroit, MI, Carolyn Fortune of Detroit, MI and Carletta of Clarksville, TN; aunt, Laura of Rockford, TN; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. ~Daddy you will truly be missed!
