Iren (Thomas Bellamy) Coach Alston was an awesome man. He was passionate about volleyball. My son Thomas loved him. Talks about his coach and how he misses him daily. From the start of volleyball season he took my son under his wing...like I noticed with all of those young men. The mentoring group he started my son benefited from. I had such an awesome feeling and couldnt wait till he was apart of 8th grade volleyball. The way he talked about volleyball and the kids engaged in it was a good feeling as a parent. I was saddened to hear of his passing, but heaven gained an one of a kind angel. Sincerest condolences to his family! ~Gone to soon

Contina Martin Yesterday, I was so shaken when I heard about my friend Jerome passing. I met Jerome at Nations Bank many years ago. He and I both became teachers in Portsmouth, so from time to time I had the opportunity to see him. Every time I saw him he would talk about his wife and children. He was certainly a proud husband and father. The last time I saw him, he was in my office sharing how happy he was because his wife was sending him to Texas to a Cow Boys game. Well, since im a Ravens Fan, I talked much trash about his team. Yes He heard booooo a lot from me that day. But as always we laughed and he left me with a smile on my face. Thanks Jerome for always being so kind and making me laugh. R.I.P. my friend. My condolences to Jerome's family. You are all in my prayers.

LP Kirkman God allows us to pass through this life for a brief moment. In that moment we must make the most of every opportunity, every relationship and every day. Jerome did just that. I will miss you and never forget you Jerome. I pray for peace and God's comfort for the Alston family. Lean not to thine own understanding....trust God always.

Feleshia Emery Alston Family: I met Jerome many, many years ago while working together at Bank of America in the Chargeback/Claims dept. Jerome always had a smile on his face and it would get even brighter when he spoke about the children at school or the youth programs he worked with. My husband and I last saw Jerome several months ago at a Jonathan Butler concert at the arts center. True to form, he was there with a group of children making sure they had the opportunity to be involved in something positve.. He will truly be missed by all....

Christopher Simon Jerome, this was a shock to us all. I reflect back on the times we had at VSU, no matter how difficult, you always had a smile on your face. While I was leaving church a couple of Sundays ago, the Lord put you on my mind, but being caught in the cares of this life I chose not to visit at that time. Although I regret that decision, I am glad that our paths crossed down here in this life. You were always one to reach out and uplift those that were around you. I shall miss you my brother, may the Lord bless your family.

Danielle Smith Jones To Yolanda and Family, my prayers are with each of you. Jerome touched the lives of so many children and youth. He worked hard to make sure that each of them were and are successful. He was a dedicated educator that will be truly missed. I am going to miss running into him at the stores with you Jolanda, but he is in the hands of God, and the work that he has done spoke for him as he touched so many lives.

Melvin Copeland When I first got to be a close friend of Jerome was when we went to Dallas to see the cowboys play the redskins although the cowboys lost but I think he really like the.looks of the stadium. We also was fortune enough to see the lakers play. The lakers won which was good because we both like the lakers. We had a great time together and he will be greatly missed.

Shawn Scott Jerome I first met you back in the day at Nations Bank/Bank of America. You always had something positive to say even when we wanted to say the wrong thing. Seeing you out this summer and meeting your wife, I see, you hadn’t changed a bit. The warm smile and the kind words will always resonate in my mind. You will be sorely missed by all! Keep 'um laugin' in Heaven!

Cora Ames-DeBraucx I was very sad to hear of the loss of your loved one. Jerome was a remarkable man that loved God, his family, friends, students and basically everyone that he came in contact with. His smile was radiant and could capture your heart. Also, he was a great teacher touching the lives of his students in such a way that they were inspired to learn. I will miss him deeply and will remember the family and his students in my prayers. Remember, God is too just to do a wrong and too wise to make a mistake. He still has a plan for him. After all, Jerome was his child and belonged to him. He loves him and will forever be with him. God bless the Alston family and know that we love you. God is still in control. He wii provide for you. Be blessed. . Cora DeBraux & Family Former Madison Colleague- Norfolk Public Schools (Retiree)

Bessie Pender To the Alston Family, I met Jerome at Madison Alternative School. Jerome was very pleasant, very caring and truly a dedicated educator, for many children. I was so shock to learn about his passing. It is hard to see right now why something like this can happen to such a wonderful person, however, just know that God has a reason why he called up this angel to be with him. Weeping may endure for a night, but joy will come in the morning.

Dara Brinkman Jerome was a positive, easy going, and professional educator. He cared about all who crossed paths with him. I was blessed to co-teach Portsmouth's STEM Discoverybase program with him. We shared many laughs and even had time for an occasional teacher workshop! I will always remember Jerome paddling down the rapids of the James River. What an experience it was for all of the teachers participating. Jerome made it all special. My deepest sympathies go out to the family. Your friends among the Portsmouth school faculty and students will miss you.

Gregory Costanza I think the true measure of a man is the impression he leaves on those he comes in contact with. I knew Jerome for 12 years and worked with him for 7. He made a lasting impression on me in too many ways to count. His attendance at my wedding meant more to me than seeing some of my distant family members. I will never forget his smile or his laughter.
