Interment Information

Mary Alice Parker, 84 years of age, passed away on Thursday, April 6, 2017 at Maryview Medical Center. Mary was born on September 29, 1932 in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, to the late Moses and Victoria Parker. She was the second eldest of 15 children, to which 8 of whom have preceded her in death. Mary followed in her mothers’ footsteps in creating her own large family and raised 5 children. As a mother, she made it her mission to raise them with a great love, affection, and respect for one another. She is remembered as being a very strong feisty and protective mother, who always stood up for her children. The greatest gift her children all agree she shared with them, was her great affection for God; an unshakable faith that s still being passed down to new generations. She loved to read her bible and share with others, the things she read. Mary also had a very warm beautiful childlike side as well. She opened her home to anyone. She enjoyed spending time with family. Her grandchildren recount many evenings, she enjoyed playing video games with them or even alone. Mary had a gift and with it, she created many different arts and crafts projects and mini statues. She also had a great love for antiquing and collecting crystal. She transitioned her passion into her work as she came to own her own store for many years, selling the antiques she collected. Mary leaves to cherish her loving memory, her children, Cooky Parker, Gwendolyn Sykes, Eleanor Lee (Ted), Tony Parker, and Samson Parker; 7 grandchildren, Juguana Madison, Abdul Lee, Kandi Ruffin, Syreeta Norfleet, Shawn Sykes, Joshua Parker, and Katherine Sykes; 4 great-grandchildren, Amontre Lee, Jomonte Lee, Kayla Norfleet, and Todd Norfleet; 6 siblings, Ethel Chisholm, Bernice Chisholm, Betty-Jean Johnson, Aaron Parker, Venson Parker, and Linda Chisholm; a lifelong friend, Elliott Chisholm; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
