In His own way and for His own purpose, God called home Rudolph Dean Carney, affectionately called “Rudy”, on Wednesday, September 6, 2017. Rudolph Dean Carney was born in Norfolk, VA on November 27, 1956 to the late Evelyn G. Carney. Rudolph grew up in Norfolk, VA where he attended Abraham Lincoln Elementary School, Campostella Junior High School and Lake Taylor High School. Rudy was no stranger to hard work. Over the years, he worked for Chesapeake Regional Hospital, Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, King Daughters Hospital and BAE Systems Norfolk Ship Repair. Rudy loved his family and spoke highly of them. A glow would radiate in his eyes and on his face when he mentioned their names, especially his son Rudolph, in which he called “Little Rudy”. He was predeceased by his mother and loving sister, Shirley D. Pemberton. He leaves to cherish is memory, his beloved son Rudolph Antoine Gregory and his wife Jenise; brother-in-law John Pemberton; three grandchildren, Tyquan Blount, Jakeil and Jaiara Gilchrist; one great-granddaughter Zalynn Gilchrist, as well as a host of relatives and friends.

Janice Overby To my friend of 57 years. We could talk about the old, old Berkeley days without hesitating or pausing. We have had the best of times together with friends & family that I will not ever forget. As I spoke to you on the day before the Lord took you to be with him, I am so glad to have had that conversation that I will always remember. You were one of the most special people that I know. Between Abraham Lincoln Elementary, Campostella Junior High, High School and our journey throughout life, we were always exactly like brother and sister. Well, God knows what is best for us all. I miss you and I love you as my brother.
