Deacon Joseph Elliott, Sr. affectionately called “Buddy” by his family and friends took his flight to Glory on the morning of January 20, 2018. Born September 15, 1928 in South Mills (Camden County), NC to the late Andrew Ferebee Elliott and Hannah McPherson-Elliott. Joseph was a life time member of the United House of Prayer for All People. He would often speak of the founder Sweet Daddy Grace and the good times he had. Joseph met and married Betty Ruth Robinson in 1959. From this union, three children were born, Joseph Jr., Priscilla and Phillip. Joseph was employed with Borden Chemical as a truck driver for thirty-one years. He retired from Chesapeake Public Schools in 2010 after twenty-nine years. Joseph enjoyed working he would often say “I’ll work as long as I can, I feel good, when people stop working they go down”. His life was serving God, providing for his family and coming to the House of Prayer. He is predeceased by his brothers, Elder Robert Elliott, Apostle George Lynwood Elliott, Apostle Eddie Elliott, Sr., Apostle Frank Elliott, Sr., Deacon Ernest Elliott, Sr., Bro. William Roosevelt Elliott, Sr., Clarence Elliott; two sisters, Sis. Lucy Mae Elliott-Halsey and Margaret Elliott-Powell. Those remaining to cherish and remember Joseph’s well spent life are two sons, Joseph Elliott, Jr. (Brenda) of Chesapeake and Phillip Elliott, Sr. of Portsmouth; one daughter, Priscilla L. Elliott of Chesapeake; six grandchildren, Clevette Burton of Portsmouth, Phylicia Burton of Chesapeake, Phillip Elliott, Jr. of Chesapeake, Patrick Elliott of Suffolk, Ciarra Gordon of Portsmouth and Sherell Elliott of Chesapeake; one brother, Vernon Elliott of Portsmouth; one brother-in-law, Tommy L. Robinson (Angela) of Portsmouth; two sisters-inlaw, Anne Elliott of Washington, DC and Patricia Elliott of Charlotte, NC; a special friend, Elizabeth Hill of Newport News and a host of nieces, nephew, other relatives and friends.

Judy Taylor I worked with Joseph at Chesapeake School Plants for several years and remember him to be a very nice, friendly man with a sweet smile. He was missed at the annual Christmas party at School Plants.
