George William Burns Jr. was born June 28, 1953, the only child to the late George Washington Burns and Mildred Elizabeth Burns in Baltimore, Maryland. He departed this life peacefully on Monday, October 30, 2017. George, a “Military Brat”, grew up between Baltimore, Maryland and San Antonio, Texas. At the age of 17, he joined the United States Army and was assigned to Basic Training at Fort Dix, New Jersey. His first duty station was in Germany. In 1970, he married Linda Manns in Baltimore, Maryland. They had two children, Octavia and George. During his military service as a Practical Nurse and Personnel Sergeant, he received numerous military honorary ribbons and awards. He was discharged with full honors from USA MEDDAC, Health Services Command, Fort Belvoir, VA in 1990. In 1994, George met and married Barbara Rivers and they relocated to Norfolk, Virginia. George loved to spend his time traveling, finding bargains, riding his motorcycle, and working on cars. George gave his life to Christ as a young man. He was an inspiration to all that met him. So many lives have been touched and changed by his positive outlook and many words of wisdom. He willing gave to those who needed help. His favorite phase was “I’m Airborne”. He truly was a kind, gentle and generous man, as well as a loving father, husband and friend. He is survived by his wife Barbara Burns, children Octavia Hall, Crystal Ruiz (Ruben), George Burns (Carmen) and Adia Hailes (Derrell); 12 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; brother-in- law David Ramsey and other relatives and friends.
