On March 24th, Ron, our beloved son, father, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend breathed his last breath, and his soul took flight to join loved ones, family and friends, who had crossed over before him. Ron was born on January 14, 1981, to Marilyn Johnson and Robert Lee Downing. He attended Westhaven Elementary, Churchland Middle and Churchland High in Portsmouth Public Schools. As a child he enjoyed playing Recreational Football with Ida Barbour, and playing video games. Ron became a father at a young age, and being a father to his son Shyheem was one of the joys of his life. He was always close to his family, especially his grandfather, Willie; his brothers and his cousins. He was a good brother always looking out for his little sisters, nieces and nephews - giving advice, B'day and Christmas gifts. And, anyone who knew him knew he loved his cars – and that love started in his youth with toy cars and continued into adulthood when he “pimped his ride”, pumped up his music and joined the Car Club. He was devoted to the Street Shinaz. He loved the crews, the cookouts, the competitions, or just strolling through the neighborhood making his deliveries. He played hard and he worked hard. For several years he worked for the Virginian Pilot as a paper carrier, while also delivering for several take out restaurants in Portsmouth; which gave him the opportunity to be independent and show off those rims on his car. Though we are sadden to see him go, we know that the pain has ended and he is at peace. He leaves to cherish his memory: his mother, Marilyn Johnson; his father Robert Lee Downing; one son, Shyheem Covil; four brothers, Georgio and DeAngelo, Shelton and Marcus; three sisters, Sandra, Tamara, and Rhonda; seven aunts, Denise, Carolyn, Antoinette, Dianne, Collette, Faye and Crystal; one uncle, Ron; two nephews, and three nieces D'Rontay, De'Andre, Asia, Tamaya, and Rosetta; a devoted companion Syteria Hines; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.

The Edmonds Family We send you our deepest sympathy. Words cannot console when we have lost someone we love in death. The Bible brings us so much comfort. It lets us know that the causes for all our suffering, as well as sickness and death, will be done away with according to Isaiah 25:8 and Revelation 21:3, 4. Knowing this has always comforted us and it is our hope that these thoughts will comfort you and your family as well.
