JEANNE LOUISE CARTER WAS BORN ON JUNE 23,1930 IN ENGLEWOOD,NJ JEANNE TO VIOLET AND JOHN CARTER WHO HAD EMIGRATED TO THE US IN THE LATE 1910’S FROM BARBADOS,WEST INDIES . JEANNE WAS THE YOUNGEST OF THREE DAUGHTERS, MAJORIE AND BERYL WHO THEN MOVED TO CLEVELAND ,OHIO FOR PART OF THEIR CHILDHOODS AND EVENTUALLY SETTLED IN BROOKLYN,NY. MS.CARTER ‘S FAMILY EVENTUALLY MOVED TO QUEENS,NY WHERE SHE GRADUATED FROM JAMACIA H.S AND ENTERED HARLEM NURSING SCHOOL AND BECAME A REGISTERED NURSE. AFTER WORKING AS PUBLIC HEALTH NURSE.MS. CARTER COMPLETED HER BACHELORS AT ST JOHNS UNIVERSITY AND BECAME AN ADMINSTRATOR AT THE NYC VETERAN’S ADMINSTRATION. ALONG THE WAY MS. CARTER MET AND MARRIED LESTER GAITHER IN 1956 AND THEY LATER HAD TWO DAUGHTERS,TOYA AND ADRIENNE WHOM THEY RAISED IN QUEENS AND NASSAU COUNTY,NY. MRS. GAITHER RETURNED TO WORK AT FLUSHING HOSPITAL AS AN ASSISTANT HOME CARE ADMINSTRATOR,LATER TO BECOME THE HOME CARE ADMINSTRATOR AND RETIRED IN 1984. LESTER GAITHER A SOCIAL WORKER AND AN ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT RETIRED IN 1992. THE COUPLE RETIRED TO SUFFOLK, VA IN 2001. WHERE THEY WERE WELCOMED TO A NEW COMMUNITY IN HARBOR VIEW. MRS. GAITHER WAS PRECEDED IN DEATH BY HER HUSBAND IN 2016. MRS. GAITHER PASSED ON MARCH 6,2018 SURVIVED BY HER DAUGHTERS TOYA GAITHER-ANGUS,A SOCIAL WORKER AND ADRIENNE GAITHER, A READING SPECIALIST, SON-IN-LAW JOHN ANGUS IN ADDITION TO SEVERAL ADORING NIECES, NEPHEWS AND FRIENDS.
