On Friday, January 5, 2018, Jean Elizabeth Bennett Potter went home to be with her heavenly Father. She was blessed with 78 years of life. Jean was born to the late Beulah Robinson Harris and Clerk Bennett on February 9, 1939 in the Lilesville Township of Anson County, North Carolina. She was the youngest of four children, and was predeceased by a son, Little Jimmy; two sisters, Gradie (Ernest) and Mary (John); and a brother, Clark (Gloria). She was a 1957 graduate of Booker T. Washington High School in Norfolk, Virginia. Jean entered the church at an early age as a member of the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church. In her adult years, she rededicated her life to the Lord Jesus Christ and became committed to learning about Him. She was a member of Calvary Revival Church. Her last church home was the First Baptist Church of Norfolk, where she faithfully served in the Lizzie Hinton Missionary Circle, the Bible Academy, and as a volunteer in the Ready Academy Christian School. Jean married her childhood sweetheart, Jimmy, on January 25, 1957. They had five children: Arnecia, James Becton III, Sheryl Robin, Kim Rene, and Sandy Jarrod Potter. Jean was a kind and loving person who was always willing to help. She was a strong woman of great wisdom and integrity who loved her family dearly. She was dutiful wife, a nurturing, yet serious, devoted mother and grandmother. The family can give testimony that we knew through the years the joy and happiness of an united family. Though she has been separated from us, we say "Thank you Jesus and praise the Lord for having allotted us seventy-eight years of genuine happiness together". She's lovingly missed by her husband, James B. Potter, Jr; her children Arnecia Potter-Elliott, Sheryl Potter-Griggs (Warren), Kim P. Branch (James, Jr.), and Sandy J. Potter (Janette); her grandchildren; Kristina, and Marc Jones, Jessica Branch-Tutt (Philip), Traci, Alexander and Lauryn Griggs, and James Branch, III; one great grandchild, Jaime Branch; a sister-in-law, Faye Potter Miles (Donald) and a host of nieces, nephews, other members of the extended family and friends.
