Paul Anthony Hill, Sr., affectionately known as “Sandman” was born July 9, 1950, in Norfolk County – Gilmerton now known as Chesapeake, Virginia to the late Barlow and Willie Mae Hill. He was also preceded in death by his brother Melvin Hill and sister Alice Hill. He was a very devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. He was educated in the Portsmouth Public School system. After graduating from I.C. Norcom High School, he joined the United States Navy in 1972. From there he went to work as a clerk for the United States Postal Service where he ultimately retired after 30 plus years. He had many hobbies including fishing and gardening. He took great pride in his landscaping, which awarded him “Yard of the Month” in June 2013 by his community! His cooking was loved by many, with chicken and dumplings, dressing, and pot roast being some of his most coveted dishes. Paul is cherished in memory by his wife of 30 years, Sandra “Pat” Hill; one son: Paul Jr.; four daughters: Valnita, Teneka (Percy), Paula and Kristen; six brothers: Bryant Hill (Gloria), Curley Hill, Keith Hill (Lougenia), Ricky Hill, Morris Hill, and Jerry Hill; four sisters: Patricia Martin, Beverly Edwards, Vanessa Hill, and Vanetta Sweetney (Robert); twelve grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and beloved friends including Emma Eaton and Marion Francis Edwards. His presence will be missed but will forever live in the treasured memories and hearts of all who knew him. We all Loved him, but God loved him more.
