Katie Marie Futrell was born on August 11, 1935 in Hertford County, NC and she later moved to Norfolk, Va. Katie was called home by the Lord on Saturday, July 15, 2017. She peacefully passed away at Sentara Nursing Center. She is predeceased by her parents, Percy and Sally Vaughan; her brothers Percy Vaughan Jr, Rayfield Vaughan, and her sister Suevella Mackey. She accepted Christ early on in her life. Katie was a woman of great faith and she put God first in every aspect of her life. She loved the Lord and was a faithful member of the Church. Katie found great joy in worshiping in the house of the Lord. She could be often found sitting in a church pew tapping her feet and nodding her head to some of God’s finest tunes. Katie was a long time member of the Garden Of Prayer Cathedral and after her illness she visited various churches with her family members every chance that she could. Katie’s life is treasured and her homegoing is celebrated by her children, Betty L. Boyd(Bobbie), Carlease McInnis(Tyrone), Herman L. Futrell, Maxie Futrell(Carolyn), Reatha F. Agustin, and Terri D. Stewart; one sister, Josephine Jones; one brother, Sam Barnes; Grandchildren, Priscilla F. Hunter(Keith), Tonya J. Fitzgerald(Sidney), Ayanna Reid, Latoya Futrell, Terrence Sawyer, Bineca L. Boyd, Candace Sawyer, Wayne W. Stewart, Jr., and Gerardo B. Agustin, Jr.; 8 Great grandchildren, host of nephews, nieces, family, and friends. A special thanks to her dear friend Pearl McNeil and her special daughter Polly Young. The family would also like to express our gratitude to the staff at Sentara Nursing Center of Chesapeake and to the Pace Program of Norfolk. We appreciate the numerous years of care you both provided to our beloved mom.

Paula Livernois Carlease and family, I was so saddened to hear of Mrs. Katie Futrell passing, I am sorry for the loss of your mom. Losing a parent is hard but know that you ALL now have a special angel watching over you ALL. As I read your mom’s tribute on this website I learned how blessed she was with all her family and her love for God, how beautiful of a lady she was. Carlease, may God continue to grant peace and comfort to your family and all the lives she touched.

Mrs. Jordan To The Family, I want to express my deepest sympathy for your loss. I also want to share the comfort of John 5:28,29 where we are promised that those who have fallen asleep in death have the hope of receiving a "resurrection" back to life. Life on an earth restored to a beautiful paradise. Psalms 37:11 says, "The meek will possess the earth and they will find exquisite delight in the abundance of peace." While we await that wonderful time please find comfort in these promises.
