Mattie Scott Griffin, affectionately known as "Mother Griffin," the oldest child of Eddie and Annie Mae Scott, was born February 11, 1934 in Butler County, Alabama. On August 1, 2017, she received her crown of life, which the Lord has promised to them that love Him. She attended Greenville Training High School and received her associate degree from Lurleen B. Wallace Community College, Greenville, Alabama. At an early age, she joined Spring Hill Baptist Church, Forest Home, Alabama. Mother Griffin’s professional career began and ended at Stabler Memorial Hospital, Greenville, Alabama. After thirty-three years, she retired as the Director of Environmental Science. In 2004, after a violent tragedy, she moved to Virginia Beach, Virginia to be with her daughter and family. Shortly after moving to Virginia Beach she joined Enoch Baptist Church until the Lord dispatched His angels of love to beckon her to eternal life. In spite of her disability, Mother Griffin was dedicated and loyal member of the Pastor’s Aide Ministry. She loved her Pastor. She was elected and served as Worthy Matron of the Morning Star Chapter #786, Order of the Eastern Star. She served in that position for 20 years. She enjoyed socializing with her friends and serving as an unofficial counselor. Mother Griffin was known for making caramel cakes and caring for foster children. Most importantly, she was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. A passionate defender of her family and a steady source of love, encouragement, and support. In 2005, Mother Griffin was chosen by the City of Virginia Beach as one of their spokespersons for Women in Domestic Violence Campaign. She leaves to cherish wonderful memories her loving and devoted daughter, Barbara Booker-Williams (Larry Williams) in Virginia Beach, Virginia; one grandson, Jamiil Booker (Sharri Eckford-Booker) in Virginia Beach, Virginia; one sister, Janie Savage in Cleveland, Ohio; one great grandson, LaShaun of Virginia Beach, a host of nephews, nieces, and caregivers from Doreen Home Health and Princess Anne Rehabilitation. In addition, she leaves her special love and friendship with the “girls” of Enoch Baptist Church.

I could see her faith as she walked into service each Sunday. Always in good spirit and well respected by each member of Enoch Baptist Church. Mother Griffin always had a kind word for everyone and a ready smile on her beautiful face. God bless you and your family.
