On Wednesday, December 13, 2017, Richard Norris Pitt, Sr. departed this earth. Richard was born in Wilson County, North Carolina to his parents, Paul and Irene Barnes Pitt (deceased) on August 14, 1934. He graduated from Frederick Douglass Elementary School and Frederick Douglas High School in 1952. After high school, Richard enlisted in the United States Air Force and his tours of duty included service in California and New Mexico from 1955 to 1957. Richard received an Honorable Discharge from the United States Air Force. He then moved to Norfolk, Virginia where he was employed by Leigh Memorial Hospital. Later his employment included 39 years at Sears and 15 years as a Bus Driver. Richard served as Treasurer in Greater Eureka Lodge for twenty years. He served for over fifty years as Post Master with Rising Son Masonic Lodge #2. Richard affectionately called (Shot and Dickie) was a loving husband to his wife, Valerie Haskins Pitt; and father, grandfather and great grandfather his son, Richard Pitt, Jr.; his daughter, Robin Pitt (deceased); grandson, Richard Pitt, III; granddaughter, Charmiya Elliott; great grandsons, Richard Pitt IV and Adin Pitt; great granddaughter, Kassidy Sherrod; devoted brother to Willie Pitt (LeVolyer) and Paul Pitt Jr.; (deceased); and a sister in-law, Carolyn Haskins Knight and daughter in-law, Marjorie Pitt; and a host nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
