Angela Carroll Russell is a proud native of North Carolina. She is the daughter of the late William A. and the late Ogletree S. Carroll. Born on January 19, 1939 and left to join her three infants on Resurrection Sunday at 10:03 a.m., April 16, 2017. She attended Hampton Institute and ultimately earned her undergraduate degree in history from Bennett College in Greensboro, North Carolina in 1961. After graduation, Angela relocated to New Castle, Delaware with her husband, then Rev. William E. Russell. A fourth-generation educator, she held various educational positions in Pennsylvania and Delaware. Angela earned a Master of Science as an educator. A year after retiring, Angela and her family relocated to Hampton Roads, Virginia. Angela worked diligently in her church and community. She was a discussion leader at a local segment of the internationally known Bible Study Fellowship International. She was a charter member of the L.D. Britt Scholarship Committee (the "Committee") which was founded to provide funds to send minority students to medical school. Since its inception, to date, the Committee has raised in excess of $2 million dollars. Angela was also a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and was formerly an active member of The Links, Inc., Portsmouth Chapter. Her association with these wonderful organizations helped her to be an agent of betterment in her community. Further, her involvement in the civil rights struggle is documented in the Book "The Long Walk," by Linda Beatrice Brown. She went to jail supporting fellow students at a segregation protest in Greensboro, North Carolina. She is survived by her husband of almost 54 years, Rev. Dr. William E. Russell, daughters Tonye Epps, J.D., K. Nicole Powell (Whitney), and Kiondra N. Russell. She is also survived by a sister Sharon Vincent (Chester). She was also a loving grandmother to Blair T. Epps, Calvin C. Epps, III, and ShaRonda R. Lewter (Lavern). She received loving support from a host of relatives, friends and church members. She was preceded in death by three infant children. One long stem rose was used as a memorial at their burials. The three long stem roses on her casket are in their memory.

Linda To the Family. Losing a love one in death is a trying time for all. I just want to give the family some comfort and hope from God's word, which gives the assurance that one day we will see our dear love ones again. ACTS 24:15 And I have a hope toward God, which hope these(men) themselves also entertain, that there is going to be a resurrection of both the righteuos and the unrighteous. Certainly while we await for these wonderful promise, I hope the family truly find comfort knowing this wonderful hope from Gods word.

Marvin L. Boomer, Sr. Earth has no sorrow that HEAVEN cannot heal ... It is with the utmost heartfelt sympathy that my condolences go out to the entire Russell family. When I think about all the good and joy that Mrs. Angela C. Russell brought into the lives of her family, church, and community .. a calm gentle peace comes into my spirit because she was a pleasant patriot of GOD. Her living was not in vain because she lived her life to help as many as she could that passed her way. Our lives are better because GOD shared her with us! Let's honor her legacy by continuing to share the LOVE of GOD with each other so our living won't be in vain ... GOD BLESS THE RUSSELL FAMILY and MAY HIS PEACE FOREVER DWELL IN YOUR HEARTS!
