Hugh Dorsey Clerk, fondly called, “Clerk,” by family and friends, left his earthly domain on October 19, 2017, to join his wife of 57 years, Goldie Payton Clerk in heavenly bliss. Army strong for more than 20 years, Hugh served his country in both the Korean and Vietnam wars. He received the Silver Clasp Good Conduct and Army Commendation Medals. Silent, but resolute, he remained close to his army buddies throughout the years. Hugh was a product of Brown High school in Moreland, GA. He was the son of William Of Orange and Leila Clerk. He is survived by his brother, Osbern (O.B) and his wife, Ann; and, his sisters Ruth Clerk, and Frances Chaney. A family man, Hugh enjoyed many life events with his children: Joyce Aladi, Floyd Cobbs, Karen Cobbs, Beverly Robinson, granddaughter, Tamika Mason, and beloved son-in-law, Thomas Aladi. Through band (marches), sporting, socials and family events, he was there to lend his love and support to his wife, children and grandchildren. Later, in his life with the arrival of his grandsons, Daniel Cobbs and Andre Robinson, great grandchildren, Ebony Cobbs, Ashley Cobbs, Kayla Mason, Kiara Mason, and Amari Williams, he was the fond and supportive grandfather, called “Big Guy.” Also, to his attentive and loving care givers during his later life: Doris Atkins, April Williams, Kyra Nelson, Jasmine Rankin, Gale Smith, Monica Dickens, Vaughandra Mills and Tracee McMilian all who skillfully navigated him through his changing health stages and eventual peaceful demise—we will be forever grateful. While his family was greatly valued by him, his love of washing and detailing cars was his joy. Legendary throughout the neighborhood for his “car” care, neighbors would remark on his ability to give an old car “a new identity,” due to his illustrious washing and cleaning skills. It could be said… by both family and friends,”they don’t make cars” and now “they don’t make people” like Hugh Clerk any more. Rest in peace “Big Guy!,” Rest in loving peace.
