On Monday, July 11, 2017, Gilbert E. Johnson answered God’s call and went to be with his Heavenly Father. He was born on August 24, 1937 to the parents of Edward Johnson and Hester E. Gilbert in Glenridge, New Jersey. Gilbert attended Montclair Public Schools in New Jersey. He enlisted in the United States Air Force, March of 1955 after which he was employed by General Motors, Schering-Plough of New Jersey until his retirement. He then moved to Virginia Beach, Virginia and was employed by Radiology Service of Chesapeake, Virginia. Gilbert loved to collect antique vehicles, boating, golfing, bowling, skiing and joking around. He also loved life and was a friend to everyone he met. Gilbert leaves to cherish his wife, Glenda Johnson; daughters, Karen Preston, Dianne Temple (Roger) and Deidra Thompson (Jerry); sister, Carolyn Jenkins; four granddaughters; two grandsons; seven great grandchildren; special friends, James (Morgan) and Mildred Lipscomb; former wife, Patricia Sills and a host of other relatives and friends
