Willie L. Gray and the L stands for Lover was born June 15, 1935 to the late Mary Eva and Thomas Gray in Newberry County, South Carolina. Willie was a quiet man with a big smile for everyone he met. He gave his life to Christ in his early teens and was baptized at Seekwell Baptist Church in Maybinton, SC. While attending school he worked in his church and after graduating high school he gave up a football scholarship to South Carolina State to serve his country in the U.S Navy. He served for 23 years before retiring. He also retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard after 20 plus years of service and the Algonquin House after 15 years. On September 1, 1961, he married Katernia Means and in 1964 the family relocated to Norfolk, VA. In October 1964, he and his family united with Mount Pleasant Baptist Church. Willie served in various ministries throughout the years. He served his community as a member of the Tidewater Lodge No. 106 and Rising Sun Chapter 32 Order of the Eastern Star. He enjoyed working with and encouraging young people because he wanted them to be successful in their life. Willie dedicated his entire life to his God, his family, his church, his community, and his country. He was preceded in death by 12 siblings. He leaves to cherish his wonderful memory his wife of 56 years Katernia, son Vada (Deborah, wife), two daughters Tara and Tanya Gray, granddaughter Ashley Gray, grandson Aren Gray (Alexis, fiancé), god daughter Angela Robinson, three step-grand sons, 12 step-great grandchildren, two brothers, six sister-in-laws, two brother-in-laws, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Esther M. Gray & Family To Mrs. Katernia & Family, We pray that God will continue to comfort & bless each of you during your time of bereavement. Continue to look to the hills from whence cometh your help, knowing that all your help comes from the Lord.
