On Saturday April 29, 2017 , our beloved mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend peacefully transitioned from this life to life eternal. Mother Margaret Lassiter was born in North Hampton County, NC on June 26, 1936 to the late Robert Lee and Lorraine Whitaker; and was the widow of Robert Lassiter Jr. She attended W.C. Greasy School, and when the family moved to Norfolk, VA she attended the Abraham Lincoln School. Margaret gave her heart to Jesus while visiting her sister at Christian Antioch Church of God In Christ (New Light). She was a faithful member of Christian Antioch Church of God in Christ for over 30 years. She experienced a move of God like never before; at that time Bishop Samuel Williams licensed her Evangelist Margaret Lassiter. Mother Lassiter started her working career as a domestic worker. Later she began working as a freelance photographer and owned several businesses. She was a hard worker and she always exhibited an entrepreneurial spirit for legitimate avenues to increase her family’s income. In 1970 Mother Lassiter moved to Newark, NJ where she continued to work with the youth creating a wholesome atmosphere for at-risk children. She saw God heal, deliver and set young people free. Mother Lassiter worked tirelessly to help keep young people out of trouble. She would sponsor road trips to keep them involved in activities of the Lord. Upon returning home to Virginia in 1990, she was led by the Lord to go and work with her nephew, Dr. Lagus E. McCoy, at Jesus Church of Deliverance. Mother Lassiter worked with the Intercessory Prayer Team, Women’s Ministry, Outreach Ministry and was the President of the Mothers Board. She was also predeceased by a son Cravin Lassiter, a grandson Jaeshawn Nasir Brown and two sisters Annie Mae McCoy and Rosa Lee Davis. Mother Lassiter leaves to cherish her memory four sons, Robert Lassiter, Carlton Lassiter (Ellen), Wayne Lassiter and Stacy Lassiter all of Norfolk, Va.; one brother Bishop Robert Lee Whitaker (Barbara) of Newport News, Va.; two sisters, Dr. Catherine Gordon (Vernon) of Chesapeake, Va. and Mildred Cabarrus of Norfolk, Va.; 8 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mother Lassiter your time has come to rest. Our love goes with you, take your rest. Thank God he has granted you peace!
