Curtis Rowan Alvin! Get hit with shock every time it hits me that you're gone. The afterlife is more interesting now and so many antiques here on earth are invaluable now. It will hurt for a long time to drive down Grandby street. Love you and miss you brother.

Gwen Gilliam Thank you, Alvin, for your friendship over the years....always willing to listen and share. I will miss your smiles and help when looking for items, large or small...always admired how he was able to come up with most anything!! Always enjoyed your visits with me at Riverview Reflections when across the street the year we were there..I always sent people your way when they said they were looking for anything...and he knew every piece of everything inside that store!! May his memory be a blessing to his family and friends.....

Susan Byrne Amanda and Alvin’s family, I am so heartbroken for you and all of us who also appreciated and cherished Alvin’s friendship. I asked him to join me on a salvage job a couple of months ago, and told him I would be happy to give him a hand on some salvage jobs if he needed help. I am so saddened that day was the last I saw him. He was a wealth of knowledge as well as a keen eye for the best architectural salvage. He seemed to always have time and a listening ear for everyone calling him constantly throughout the day. He leaves such a void in our community and our hearts. Blessings and peace to all of you.

Liea from Rusty Cottage Wow, I still can't believe it. You always had encouraging words and I'm gonna miss telling you my ideas and making you promise not to tell anyone. I hope someone keeps the shop going in your honor. And I am so glad you had Amanda as your special friend, she seemed to make you very happy. Bless your family and friends, you will be missed!

Tracy Alvin -- I've accumulated a lot of stuff in the 42 years I've lived in Riverview. I was always relieved to have a go-to guy who I knew would find a deserving home for my old goodies when the time came for them to move on. But more than that, I am especially unhappy that our developing friendship will never continue to grow. Your good nature and gentlemanly manner made the neighborhood I love an even better place, and I thank you for that.

Sam Hundley I'd like to send my sincere condolences to the friends and family of Alvin. I'm so very grateful for having known him. He was a wonderment, a supernatural force, a friendly and generous source of inspiration and knowledge and he always encouraged me in my art. I will miss him very much and will never forget him. Lots of love to you. - Sam

Mary Lou and Patrice Had no idea that a wave from my van would be our last. Life turns on a dime, in your case, a rusty dented one. We won’t be able to pass the shop with out a honk after all these years! You were a landmark all your own, a neighborhood icon, a designers secret! You were the gatekeeper of the largest collection of lost historic beauty in Norfolk. You blazed the road of Archetectural Salvage! OH How you would tempt us, displaying the best “stuff”, front and center of the sidewalk! You went too soon!

Traci Lovelace I've been a customer at Country Boys ever since I moved to the area. Alvin was wonderful to work with. Always low key, always friendly. And he knew exactly where everything in his store was. Anyone who has visited can attest to the skill and memory needed for that feat. I sure am going to miss him. Prayers to family and loved ones.
