Dorothy Mae Wright, 89, made her heavenly transition on September 17, 2017. She was born on January 27, 1928 in Dillon, South Carolina, to the late, William and Lottie McCormick, and was the widow of Jacob Wright, Jr. We describe Mom as a child of God, who had great compassion and love for others, and was always willing to help anyone in need. Her love and faith were demonstrated at St. Thomas A.M. E. Zion Church, through faithful giving, attendance of worship services, and other church activities. She served on the General Assessment Board as a Deaconess, and served as its Treasurer for 27 years. She was a vital part of the Women’s Home and Overseas Missionary Society before her health failed. She was a military wife and traveled for many years. Her hobby was crocheting and through that gift, she was able to bless many people from far and near with her beautiful creations. Mom was a great cook and would invite family, friends, and neighbors over for Sweet Potato Jacks, her famous chocolate cake, sweet potato pudding, and wonderful Southern dished. Mom was the matriarch of the family, the “historian, and the encyclopedia” of our family tree; and preserved memories of many families through photographs, collecting obituaries, and newspaper clippings. She was predeceased by her husband, Jacob Wright, Jr. and brother, William McCormick, Jr. Those left to cherish her memories are: a daughter, Julia Mason (Pastor Robert Mason), Virginia Beach, VA; son, Ernest Wright, Sr. (Shelia), Chesapeake, VA; a sister, Kathaleen Clark, Norfolk, VA; a special niece, Joan Clark Gannt and nephew, Dennis Clark; six grandchildren; seven greatgrandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.

Pamela Clark Easter Julia just learned of the passing of your Mother. My prayers are with you and your family. I loved your Mom she was a beautiful person. Be encouraged and earth has no sorrow that heaven cannot heal. Love Pamela Clark Easter
