John Seymour Fonville, better known as Seymour, passed away Monday, January 15, 2018 at his home in Norfolk, Virginia. Seymour was born on April 21,1919 to the late Letha and Leonie Fonville in North Carolina. Seymour served in the United States military during World War II then later retired with the Norfolk Naval Shipyard in 1978. During his early years, he enjoyed attending church and reading the bible with his brothers in North Carolina. He grew up on a farm where he raised his own farm animals. Seymour had 7 beautiful kids in holy matrimony with Carrie Mandy Fonville. His later years were spent sitting on the porch at his home in Norfolk, eating (he loved chocolate candy, fried crabs, ice cream and cake), talking to family and chewing tobacco. Seymour is survived by his sister Mary F. Alexander, two sons Calvin and Tyrone Fonville, four daughters Ruth Dratian, Ruby Diane Watson, Linda Elaine Dixs, and Amanda Renee Fonville, grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his son John Seymour Fonville Jr., two brothers Letha and Jack Fonville, and five sisters Maggie Hatched, Sarah Burrus, Mildred Fonville, Ella Jennetta and Hazel McInnis.
