On April 22, 2017 Bruce Leon Cary peacefully passed away. Bruce was born on January 12, 1962 in Norfolk, Virginia to the late Catherine Cary and Rossie Cary, Sr. He was the baby of five boys. As a little boy he was given the nickname “tank head.” Bruce attended the Norfolk Public Schools up until high school where he finished at John Yates High School in Suffolk, Virginia. After high school, Bruce served four years in the Army. Upon getting out of the Army he settled in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Bruce was involved in his work and community. He worked for the Colorado Springs Housing Authority for twenty years. He would take clothes to some of the residents. Also, he was very personable, caring and would always encourage residents by sharing with them how they could do better. Bruce was a mentor to many of the youth over the years. He was involved with the Toastmasters. He would speak at some of the schools in the Colorado Springs area. He dabbled in acting and he was involved in the Democratic Party. Melissa Allen, Director of Peach Camp of Colorado, Co said every year Bruce would pay the full tuition for a kid who normally would not have the means to afford the camp. He really made a difference in their lives. He was involved with the National Wildfire Association, Falcon Wanderers Volksmarch Club (walking group), and the Sierra Club. In addition, upon Bruce’s death he donated his tissues to the Donor Alliance Organ and Tissue Donation of Denver Colorado. Bruce was very active in outdoor activities. He loved white water rafting, hiking, cycling, kayaking and camping. Also, he would help in clearing many hiking trails. Bruce Leon Cary leaves to cherish his memory his four brothers, Rossie Cary, Jr. (Maria) of Falls Church, Virginia, Cornell Cary of Portsmouth, Virginia, Rev. Ronald M. Cary (Virginia) of Drewyville, Virginia, Alden T. Cary (Venita); a dear friend, Memory Washington of Colorado, uncles, Lewis Holloway and Joseph Holloway; aunts, Mildred Holloway, Ruby Holloway and Vernell Holloway; many cousins, nephews, nieces, friends and coworkers. Bruce was loved by so many people. Many would say he was a good man and they loved him. He would do anything to help. He will truly be missed.

Ande West My deepest condolences to the family and to the love of Bruce's life, Memory Washington. For those who never made it out to Colorado, Bruce enjoyed a full and beautiful life. He did touch so many people here. Our impromptu Memorial get together at the American Legion Post 2 days after he passed was a testimony to how he impacted so many here. The home going I just watched was so very special and really connected the dots for me as I saw his old neighbors come out to support the Cary family. It was a beautiful service, so glad those of us who couldn't be there were still able to participate. Love you always Bruce.
