Shawn Nigel Hyater was born to the late Ruby Briggs and James Hyater on July 17, 1968. Shawn departed this life on March 22, 2018. Shawn was predeceased by his grandparents, Margaret and Charlie Briggs. Shawn grew up in the Maple Wood Park area of Douglas Park of Portsmouth, VA. Shawn attended Craddock High School in 1984. Shawn was known as “Hook Dee”. Shawn is survived by his wife; Denise Hyater of 27 years of marriage; three daughters, Shanika Freeman, Shawnta Hyater and Sabrina Freeman all of Norfolk, VA, five brothers, Charles Briggs, Nicholas Hyater, Willie Townes, Gerald Webb and Roshawn Butts; two brother in-laws, Pernell Luster and Eric Reid; two sister in-laws, Tonya Lindsey and Linda Briggs; Mother in-law, Clara Griffin; nine grandchildren; two aunts, Sharon Williams and Jacqueline Merrick and a host of other relatives and friends.
