Claude “Lil Marvin” Smith was born on May 17, 1986 in Norfolk, Virginia to Trudy and Claude Marvin Pitchford III. As a kid he attended Suburban Park Elementary and Norview Middle School. A fun loving rambunctious child known for fresh J’s, high top box fades, and something funny to say. He excelled in basketball and football, and was a proud Miami Dolphins fan. He went on to work with his grandfather, father, aunts and uncles at the family business Pitchford Plastering. Earning a trade in plastering and continuing that throughout the years. He was a loving son, grandson, great-grandson, brother, nephew, cousin and friend. Marvin was the true definition of a soldier; weather many storms and coming out stronger every time. An avid reader, loyal friend, and a very culturally conscious young man. He was brave and loyal to a fault. He was a rider. Always willing and ready to advance himself. Acquiring his G.E.D. and moving to Charlotte, NC with his aunt Michelle, he landed a great job. He was hired at Perdue and his performance earned him a promotion within three months. Marv was also a student at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College studying electronic engineering. A self proclaimed chef, the first person to put peanut-butter on an Oreo back in ’97. In his latest years he developed a liking for boxing, sparring at least three times a week. Although he enjoyed attending NBA and NFL games with his family in Charlotte, he recently made the decision to return to home to Norfolk, VA. Upon his return he rejoined the family business working side by side with his father and brother. Lil Marv was a true live wire and was living his best life. Stubborn, driven and determined to do whatever he wanted whenever he wanted. Although taken from us way too soon he will forever be cherished and truly missed. Marvin precious memory will always linger in the hearts of his parents, Trudy L. and Claude Marvin Pitchford,III; brother, Ja’cory M. Pitchford; paternal great grandmother, Lorrine Pitchford, paternal grandmother Shirley M. Pitchford, maternal grandmother, Ruth H. Smith and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
